Visualization of Extensive Air Showers
Extensive Air Showers (EAS)
Extensive air showers are cascades of elementary particles that occur in the Earth's atmosphere when high-energy particles hit it. Interacting with the atoms of gases in the atmosphere, this particle generates new ones, and so on. The size of the shower can reach tens of kilometers. The data obtained in the analysis of the characteristics of particles that have reached the earth's surface are used to reconstruct the parameters of the original particle that generated the shower, which makes it possible to analyze and study cosmic radiation.
EAS in virtual reality
The project of visualization of EAS allows you to observe the shower from the appearance of the original particle to the absorption of the last secondary particles.
The ability to filter the displayed particles by energy and type is available. The visualized data was obtained using calculations in the Corsika and Geant4 programs.
The developed software tool makes it possible to visualize not only extensive air showers, but also any cascades of particles, for example, arising when a particle enters the detector.
